California – year – 1990
I started as public defender for two years and tried approximately twenty jury and bench trials, both in adult and juvenile courts. I’ve been in private criminal defense practice ever since, first spending about ten years in the Bay Area, where I tried approximately 20 jury trials, mainly sex charges, domestic violence, and other serious felonies. I then spent ten years in Los Angeles first with a high-volume criminal defense practice, then going on my own.
With the larger firm in Los Angeles, I tried and litigated motions in sex and domestic violence charges, child molestation and child pornography, and narcotics charges. I then had my own practice, representing clients against felony charges, including murder, rape, kidnap, child molestation and domestic violence. I returned to the Bay Area five years ago, and continued in criminal defense. Overall, I have tried over 50 jury trials, and while I have not kept strict statistics, I have won well over 50% of them.
I am experienced in using the advice and testimony of expert witnesses in rape examination, child and adult psychology, and forensic analysis, and I have attended and taught seminars on trial practice. I also speak and write fluent Spanish.
